GitHub is shutting down Spark and Models, directing developers to GitHub Copilot

As of 4 August 2026, GitHub stopped new user registrations and the creation of new applications in Spark; existing applications can be exported until 31 August 2026. The GitHub Models inference service for the llm() function shut down on 30 July 2026; applications that do not use it continue to work.

What you get out of it

Anyone with applications created in GitHub Spark must export them by 31 August 2026 and, if they use the llm() function, arrange their own API key and model provider; otherwise, the AI features will stop working.

Fake AI videos with the voice of astronomer Jiří Grygar on YouTube, family files criminal complaint

Fake videos with a synthetic voice of astronomer Jiří Grygar talking about God and aliens have appeared on YouTube. YouTube did not respond to the takedown request, so his son Lukáš Grygar filed a criminal complaint.

What you get out of it

It turns out that the voice and likeness of a publicly known person can be misused by AI without their knowledge to spread false content, and that reporting it to the platform may not lead to a quick takedown — it is therefore useful to also know the route of filing a criminal complaint.

Commentary criticizes belief in AGI and superintelligence as a driver of investment narratives in the tech industry

A commentary on Tech Policy Press criticizes how belief in the imminent emergence of AGI/ASI drives investment narratives at tech companies – one example is SpaceX, whose IPO in June 2026 briefly made Musk a trillionaire and whose market capitalization exceeds 2 trillion USD.

What you get out of it

The text calls on policymakers and the public to critically assess claims about AGI and superintelligence on which companies build investment and societal narratives, rather than accepting them as fact.

YouTuber Hank Green admitted to an unhealthy dependence on ChatGPT when creating videos

YouTuber Hank Green (3.2 million subscribers, Complexly channel) apologized for excessive use of ChatGPT when preparing videos after viewers spotted wording originating from a chatbot in the script. He promised to scale back production and return to content he writes himself.

What you get out of it

The case illustrates a specific warning sign of excessive LLM use — a growing sense of needing to interact with the model (“dopamine from LLM”) and losing a clear sense of one's own work process, which may also offer a lesson for everyday users of AI tools at work.
