Analysis of ads in ChatGPT in the Czech Republic: advertisers are often absent from answers
Ads are now running in the free version of ChatGPT in the Czech Republic as well. According to an analysis by Marketing Miner, they appeared alongside roughly 75 % of answers to consumer queries. For 89 % of queries, the answer did not mention the company featured in the accompanying ad.
OpenAI launched ads in the free version of ChatGPT in the Czech Republic in late August. An analysis by Marketing Miner covering more than a thousand answers found that an ad appeared alongside approximately 75 % of answers to consumer queries. However, for 89 % of queries, the answer did not mention the company whose ad appeared below it.
According to the analysis, ad frequency varies significantly by topic: ads appeared almost always for cars and furniture, but rarely for banking and pharmacy. The E15.cz article links this to advertising bans and restrictions in regulated industries. Ads also appeared more often when comparing offers and preparing to make a purchase than when simply looking for information.
According to the E15.cz article, the first advertisers were predominantly small and medium-sized businesses, including regional businesses. The minimum daily budget is in the low hundreds of Czech crowns, while the cost per click is not fixed and typically runs into tens of Czech crowns. Vojtěch Toulec, co-owner of Marketing Miner, says the initial results for advertisers do not show the expected combination of low prices and high performance. He describes the difference between the answer and the ad as a possible explanation, rather than a confirmed cause.
The launch in the Czech Republic follows the announced expansion of ads from 24 August to 31 European countries, which are expected to include all EU member states as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The Živě.cz article mentions that ads are also expected to be shown to some subscribers.
Why it matters
When choosing goods and services, users receive a separate advertising offer alongside the answer, often featuring a different company. Advertisers have gained another channel for reaching people as they make purchasing decisions, but frequent ad appearances alone do not demonstrate commercial effectiveness.

Two audiences, two different impacts
What this means
For individuals
When making purchasing decisions in the free version of ChatGPT, an accompanying ad cannot automatically be treated as a recommendation included in the answer.
For a business
Businesses now have an additional advertising channel available with a daily budget in the low hundreds of Czech crowns. However, campaign planning must account for differences between industries and the fact that paid advertising does not ensure the company is mentioned in the answer itself.
