OpenAI says Dots will become more widely available in Europe within a few weeks

confirmed by 2 independent sources updated October 28, 2026

According to OpenAI, the Dots assistant is expected to become more widely available in Europe within a few weeks. Personal Pro accounts in the EEA, Switzerland and the United Kingdom do not yet have access; some business accounts can already gain access.

At DevDay Exchange 2026 in Berlin, OpenAI announced that the Dots assistant is expected to become more widely available in Europe within a few weeks. According to company representative Romain Huet, the announcement followed discussions with regulators. Personal Pro accounts in the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom do not yet have access; some business accounts can already gain access. The company did not provide an exact date for the expansion.

The Dots assistant was launched in late September. It is available in the ChatGPT desktop and mobile apps to subscribers on Pro and higher tiers, with prices starting at 100 USD per month, subject to the regional restrictions described above. According to OpenAI, once connected to a calendar, email, a computer and other tools, it works continuously in the background and proactively looks for opportunities to help the user.

During testing, TechCrunch observed alerts about calendar conflicts and approaching deadlines, but these did not always arrive in time. According to OpenAI, users can disable the use of conversations for model training and control access to connected sources. However, TechCrunch points out that these settings offer limited granularity: for example, the app does not accept read-only access to cloud storage.

What changed

Why it matters

Continuous monitoring of calendars and deadlines may help people who currently check this information manually. However, the test shows that timely alerts cannot yet be relied on. Practical use also depends on availability for the specific account and a willingness to give the assistant access to work data.

Two audiences, two different impacts

What this means

01

For individuals

For personal Pro account holders in the EEA, Switzerland or the United Kingdom, the announcement does not yet open up access. A subscription alone does not ensure access to the Dots assistant in these regions.

What to do Before purchasing a subscription to use the Dots assistant, check availability for your account and region.

02

For a business

Some business accounts can already gain access. When connecting work storage, however, the company must assess the scope of permissions, because testing by TechCrunch found that the app does not accept read-only connections to cloud storage.

Risks and compliance
What to decide Before connecting work storage, check the required permissions and whether they comply with your company's data access policies.
