GitHub adds agent usage comparisons by industry to Copilot impact dashboard
Copilot impact dashboard now compares agent usage with data from participating companies by size and industry. Participation is voluntary and disabled by default. The comparison covers a 28-day period, updates daily and is not available through the API or exports.
GitHub has added an Industry comparison section to Copilot impact dashboard. It compares the proportion of users in the agent-first and multi-agent categories and the rate at which changes are merged for agent users versus other users. It puts results for the 28-day reporting period in the context of aggregated data from other participating companies. Participation is voluntary and disabled by default.
The comparison group can be selected by company size and one of ten industries. If an industry does not have enough participants, the tool uses all industries within the same size category and labels the group used. A position relative to the median is shown only when enough companies are participating; as the group grows, a comparison with the top ten percent becomes available. Some comparisons may also be missing because the company’s own metric cannot be calculated, for example if there are no users without agents left to compare against.
Owners of enterprise accounts and owners of organizations that do not belong to an enterprise account can configure participation. Organizations under an enterprise account participate through that account; enterprise accounts used solely to assign Copilot Business licenses cannot participate. The Copilot usage metrics policy must be enabled. Anyone with access to Copilot impact dashboard can view the results, but they are not included in the API, NDJSON exports or downloadable files.
The comparison updates daily. Opting out immediately hides the results and excludes the company’s data starting with the next daily update. According to GitHub, aggregated comparison data contains no identifying information and is deleted after 30 days. For GitHub Enterprise Cloud with data residency, comparisons include only participants from the same region.
Why it matters
Development team leaders gain context to assess whether agent usage is in line with similarly sized companies in their industry. However, the usefulness of the results depends on the number of participants and the availability of a comparison group. Restricting results to viewing within the tool also means they cannot be incorporated into custom reporting through the API or exports.

What this means
For a business
According to GitHub, the comparison can help set goals for agent adoption and identify gaps in usage. The company must decide whether to participate, as access to the comparison requires contributing its own data.
