Gemini assistant in Android Auto is set to check flight statuses and navigate using photos
According to Google, Personal Intelligence lets the Gemini assistant check a flight's status using a confirmation in Gmail or navigate to a location shown in a photo. The rollout to Android Auto is beginning, with cars featuring Google built-in expected to follow.
According to Google, Personal Intelligence can connect the Gemini assistant in the car to data from Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Photos, YouTube and Search. For example, the assistant is expected to retrieve flight details from a confirmation email and then check the flight status. Other uses mentioned include navigating to a location shown in a user's photo or to a medical appointment.
The rollout to Android Auto begins on the day the articles are published. Cars with Google built-in are expected to receive support in the coming months.
The feature remains optional. According to Google, apps connect to the Gemini assistant only after Personal Intelligence is enabled, and personalized responses are available only when the phone is connected to the car. Navigation, music, calls and general queries remain available without enabling the feature.
Why it matters
According to Google, drivers can use personal data as context for a request without manually looking up an address or flight details. The decision to enable the feature therefore combines greater convenience with permission to access personal apps; standard car functions do not depend on this connection.
