Copilot usage metrics API now distinguishes customizations by name

clearly official source

GitHub has expanded the Copilot usage metrics API: aggregated reports covering 28 days show the names of customizations instead of the labels other or custom. The list limit has increased from 5 to 25 items per record.

GitHub has updated the Copilot usage metrics API. Aggregated reports covering 28 days now display the configured names of custom skills, custom agents, MCP servers, slash commands and plugins in the day_totals section. These items were previously grouped under other or custom.

The change applies to the totals_by_skill, totals_by_custom_agent, totals_by_mcp, totals_by_slash_cmd and totals_by_plugin lists. Each now contains up to 25 items per record instead of the previous 5; the remaining activity is combined into a final other item. The calculation of interaction_count and the distinct_*_use_count fields remains unchanged.

What changed

Why it matters

According to GitHub, administrators can track the use of specific internal customizations after their introduction and focus further support based on developer interest. The expanded lists provide details on a larger number of customizations.
