AWS simplifies access to Amazon SageMaker Studio for new customers
New customers can get started with Amazon SageMaker Studio after signing up in 2–3 steps, usually without a credit card. According to AWS, the environment is set up in about 20 seconds. A 100 USD credit is included; the free period ends after six months at the latest.
AWS has made Amazon SageMaker Studio available to new customers through a simplified sign-up process. An account can be created in 2–3 steps using an Amazon, Apple, GitHub or Google account, or an email address. Phone number verification is not required, and most customers do not need to provide credit card details. According to AWS, the environment is automatically set up in approximately 20 seconds. The sign-in process for existing AWS accounts remains unchanged.
New customers receive 100 USD in credit for services within Amazon SageMaker AI, including model customization and training, working in Studio notebooks and deploying endpoints. They can also earn an additional 100 USD in credits. The free period ends after six months or when the credit runs out, whichever comes first. Resource usage then stops automatically. Customers can switch to a paid plan by adding payment details.
Newly created environments include preconfigured permissions for model customization, training, evaluation and deployment. Eligible accounts have access to G5, G6 and G4dn GPU instances by default. The instance selection menu shows available quotas.
Why it matters
Individuals can try working with models without manually setting up the environment and, in most cases, without providing credit card details. For small teams, the credit offers room to test a prototype, but the automatic halt to resource usage means that keeping it running requires a timely decision about a paid plan.
Two audiences, two different impacts
What this means
For individuals
If you are creating a new AWS account, you can use an existing account or an email address and get started without manually configuring the environment. The sign-in process for existing accounts remains unchanged.
For a business
The team can fund initial experiments with the 100 USD credit. However, operations that depend on these funds will automatically stop when the credit runs out or six months have elapsed, unless the team switches to a paid plan.
