Assisted permission approval is generally available in GitHub Copilot tools

GitHub announced the general availability of assisted permission approval in GitHub Copilot CLI, GitHub Copilot app and Visual Studio Code. According to GitHub, a language model assesses requests to run commands, access file system paths and open URLs. Requests assessed as clearly safe proceed automatically; all others require user approval.
Enterprise administrators can use centrally managed settings to disable Allow All mode while keeping Assisted mode available, or disable Assisted mode separately as well. They can also specify the default permission mode for new sessions. Developers can still choose another mode allowed by company policies. If the default mode is unavailable or prohibited by policy, the session starts with manual approval.
Why it matters
The new mode can reduce the number of manual approvals needed when working with the assistant. The decision to proceed automatically depends on the assessment made by the language model. Companies can allow this way of working without also enabling Allow All mode.
Two audiences, two different impacts
What this means
For individuals
With assisted mode enabled, you will only need to manually approve requests that the language model does not assess as clearly safe.
For a business
Administrators gain control over the availability of assisted approval and the default mode for new sessions, allowing them to standardize permission policies for developers.
