Anthropic is struggling to secure enough computing capacity from AWS, Google and Microsoft, according to a TechCrunch report on an S-1 document leaked to The Wall Street Journal. According to the article, these providers increasingly view Anthropic as a competitor. In the document, Anthropic estimates potential spending on cloud contracts at more than 750 billion dollars; however, some of the agreements included are still being negotiated.
Anthropic also leases its own data centers and works with other operators. In the document, it warns that some of these operators have limited operating histories, which could make them less reliable than the largest cloud providers. Anthropic did not immediately respond to a request for comment from TechCrunch.
Why it matters
Securing computing capacity affects the ability of Anthropic to operate and expand AI services. Bringing in additional operators broadens its options but, according to the company, also carries a risk of less reliable infrastructure.
