České Radiokomunikace and five partners are building fibre connectivity for the Gateway data centre near Prague (26 MW, possibly up to 77 MW). Polarise and Multiverse Computing have already reserved GPU capacity, with the latter investing 1.2 billion Kč.

České Radiokomunikace (ČRA) has announced the fibre connectivity suppliers for the planned Gateway data centre near Prague, which is set to be the largest in Czechia. Partners SITEL, Quantcom, TTC, Energtel and ČD-Telematika will participate in building the fibre network. The network will connect Gateway to the ČRA backbone network in Prague, including connections to the DC Tower and CE Colo nodes and other Prague locations. According to the company, ČRA is combining several approaches – increasing the capacity of its own routes, purchasing or leasing infrastructure from partners and building entirely new routes, with some of the work already completed.

Gateway is designed with a capacity of 26 MW and is currently under construction by Skanska. ČRA is also seeking to have the project included in a European AI gigafactory, which the company says could increase capacity to as much as 77 MW.

The data centre already has its first binding capacity reservations. German company Polarise, a provider of computing power from Nvidia graphics cards, has ordered 15 MW. Spanish company Multiverse Computing wants to use up to 30 MW and is also investing 1.2 billion Czech crowns in the project and will provide its own software platform.

ČRA says it is already installing AI servers at the existing Lužice data centre near Hodonín, where, according to the company, demand immediately takes up all available capacity.

What changed

Why it matters

Local capacity for GPU computing operations is being developed in Czechia, which could offer companies running AI workloads an alternative to foreign cloud providers – the sources provide neither specific prices nor a launch date; for now, the key point is the existence of binding reservations from foreign companies.

For a business

The largest data centre in Czechia designed for AI operations is being built with a capacity of 26 MW (potentially up to 77 MW), where foreign companies are already reserving GPU capacity (Polarise 15 MW, Multiverse Computing up to 30 MW with an investment of 1.2 billion Kč) – expanding the local supply of computing power for AI workloads.
