The GitHub Copilot app adds built-in panels for diffs, a terminal and a browser

only one source so far

The GitHub Copilot app now includes built-in panels for viewing diffs, running commands in a terminal and testing in a browser, so developers can review and test AI-generated changes without leaving the app.

According to its own blog, GitHub has added three built-in panels to the GitHub Copilot app, intended to simplify the review of changes made by an AI agent. The diff panel shows a comparison of the code before and after the edit, with added lines highlighted in green and removed lines in red. The terminal panel allows commands to be run directly within a session in the app, either manually or as a saved script via the Run button; multiple terminal windows can be opened at once. The browser panel is used to test features with a user interface directly in the app, without switching to a separate browser.

According to the company, these three steps previously required switching between the editor, a terminal window and a web browser, whereas they are now available side by side in one place. Within the diff panel, users can accept changes, add a comment or ask Copilot to make an adjustment. The browser panel also includes the “Pick & Polish” tool for selecting a specific element and having the agent refine it. Once the edits are complete, the change can be accepted immediately and a pull request created directly from the app.

The source describes the feature as a guide for beginners on how to complete the entire cycle of reviewing, running and testing agent-generated code in one place.

What changed

Why it matters

Developers using GitHub Copilot can now complete the entire AI-generated code review cycle – inspecting the diff, running the code and testing it in the browser – without switching between the editor, terminal and browser, which, according to the company, makes it easier to verify that a change actually works before accepting it.

Two audiences, two different impacts
