Startup Auris One is developing AI for automatic transcription of medical reports from conversations in the consulting room

Startup Auris One (co-founded by former CEO of Avast Ondřej Vlček) is developing AI that automatically generates medical documentation from conversations in the consulting room. According to the company, it now covers ten specialties and thousands of reports a week, and is preparing to expand into Slovakia.

Czech startup Auris One is developing an AI system that automatically turns conversations in the consulting room into structured medical documentation ready to be inserted into a hospital system – from records and discharge summaries to reports from preventive checkups. According to CEO Nina Formánek Jaganjacová, the main technical challenge is context: the AI must distinguish information relevant to documentation from everyday small talk in the consulting room, while also accounting for the fact that patients make up or withhold some information.

Ondřej Vlček, former CEO of Avast, came up with the idea after noticing how his wife spent evenings manually writing medical reports. Vlček funded the startup with the first million dollars and brought in Nina Formánek Jaganjacová as CEO; the chief technology officer and co-founder is Michal Trs, former VP of Engineering at Avast, and much of the development team also comes from Avast. The team now has fifteen members, including doctors from various specialties who work with the developers to fine-tune what information the system should capture in the documentation for each specialty.

The project began in palliative care and, according to the company, now covers more than ten medical specialties and generates thousands of medical reports a week. Auris One currently operates as a standalone web application that is not connected to the software used in healthcare facilities; the future goal is to enter information directly into the patient record. The startup emphasizes that it is not a medical device and does not have MDR certification because, according to the company, its model must not suggest diagnoses or infer anything – according to Jaganjacová, this causes difficulties for some hospitals because the regulatory framework for similar tools is still being developed.

The company is preparing to expand into Slovakia and is currently in talks about further investment. Details can be found in the source article.

What changed

Why it matters

According to the company, the tool reduces the administrative burden on doctors by automatically preparing a structured report after an examination or during it, instead of having them write it manually and incorporate Latin terms. For healthcare facilities, this is technology that can be deployed without medical device certification, which makes market entry easier, but according to Jaganjacová, it also means unclear rules that individual hospitals must navigate on their own, as well as a current lack of connections to existing hospital systems.

Two audiences, two different impacts

What this means

01

For individuals

For doctors in specialties where Auris One already operates, the company says the tool reduces the time spent writing reports during or after examinations and allows them to focus more on the patient instead of the screen.

What to do Doctors who find administrative work burdensome can follow the expansion of Auris One into additional specialties and locations as a possible alternative to writing reports manually.

02

For a business

For healthcare facilities, this is a tool that automates administrative work without requiring medical device certification, which the company says simplifies deployment, but also means an unclear regulatory framework, a lack of integration with existing hospital systems, and an unresolved question of how patient data is handled.

Processes
What to decide Healthcare facilities considering deploying similar tools should check their certification status, how patient data is handled, and the options for integration with existing hospital systems.
