Stability AI has released a DAW plugin and an expanded web application for Stable Audio 3.0

Stability AI has released a DAW plugin (VST3/AU for Logic Pro and Ableton Live on macOS) and an expanded web application for the Stable Audio 3.0 model with iterative editing, mixing and audio-to-audio transformations. Both solutions are in beta.

Stability AI has made two new ways of working with the Stable Audio 3.0 model available: a DAW plugin and an expanded web application at StableAudio.com. The plugin works as an instrument directly in the music editor — in Ableton Live under Plug-Ins on an Instrument track, and in Logic Pro in the Instrument slot. According to the company, it allows users to generate audio synchronized with the project tempo (BPM), choose a generated segment length of up to six minutes and save multiple versions (takes) to a playlist for comparison. The plugin is available in AU and VST3 formats for macOS, supports both Apple Silicon and Intel Mac, and is compatible with Logic Pro and Ableton Live.

The improved web application adds the ability to iteratively edit generated audio using text instructions (e.g. less bass, different instrumentation), audio-to-audio transformations to explore new genres and moods from existing material, and work with individual tracks — volume levels, pan, mute, solo and effects on individual tracks and the master. Finished sections can be exported (bounced), and the mix can be downloaded for further work.

Both solutions run on models that the company describes as commercially safe — according to the company, users own the outputs and can distribute them freely. The plugin and web application are in early beta; according to the company, some features are experimental and will continue to evolve based on user feedback.

What changed

Why it matters

Integrating audio generation directly into Logic Pro and Ableton Live changes the workflow — musicians and sound designers no longer need to import generated material from outside, and can instead edit, mix and refine it directly in the environment where they normally work. According to the company, combining this with commercially safe models and clear ownership of outputs also opens up use in commercial production (advertising, games, media), although for now only on macOS and in beta with limited feature stability.

Two audiences, two different impacts

What this means

01

For individuals

Musicians, producers and sound designers can now generate and edit audio directly in Logic Pro or Ableton Live on Mac, synchronize generation with the project tempo and iteratively refine the result instead of repeatedly generating it from scratch.

What to do Try the plugin or web application at StableAudio.com and provide Stability AI with feedback on the beta version.

02

For a business

Companies producing audio content (music, sound design, advertising materials) can deploy commercially safe models with clear ownership of outputs, changing the cost and speed of audio asset production — but the tool is still in beta with limited platform support (macOS only).
