Pinterest introduced Beauty Guides, a feature intended to turn saved images of hairstyles and nails into information to prepare for a salon visit. According to the company, it uses Pinterest Intelligence technology, based on visual intelligence and generative AI, to translate inspiration into terminology used by hairdressers and nail specialists.
The guide is expected to be accessible through a “Get the Guide” button in the app. It will offer a description of what to ask for to achieve the chosen look, estimated durations for individual treatments, a price range and aftercare requirements, such as how often to get a trim or refresh the colour. At launch, the feature is expected to cover hairstyles, hair colour, nail shapes and nail finishes.
Why it matters
When choosing a look, users can consider the time involved, approximate costs and frequency of aftercare alongside the photograph. Professional terminology may help when discussing which parts of the reference look the customer wants to keep or change.
Two audiences, two different impacts
What this means
For individuals
Anyone considering a change of hairstyle or having their nails done can get information to help decide whether the chosen look suits them, including the regular upkeep it requires.
For a business
Salons may receive requests from clients expressed in professional terminology, along with price and time expectations drawn from the guide. This affects the initial consultation and agreement on the desired service.
