Košík.cz launches a plugin for shopping through ChatGPT, but it has yet to become a real source of business
Košík.cz has become the first retailer in Central Europe to launch a plugin for shopping through ChatGPT. According to CEO Ivan Utěšil, it currently generates only a few orders a day, but the company expects 15 % of revenue to come from this channel by 2030.
Košík.cz, the operator of a Czech online supermarket, has launched an app (plugin) for buying groceries directly through ChatGPT. According to the company, this is the first such solution among retailers in Central Europe. CEO Ivan Utěšil said that only a few orders a day are currently placed through this channel, which he described as a fraction of one percent of all orders.
The company sees the plugin launch primarily as a demonstration of technological readiness and an exploration of the direction in which the market is developing, rather than as a current source of business. It is working on a follow-up conversational shopping assistant that customers will be able to talk to and ask to put together their grocery order. Based on its estimates, the company expects that up to 15 % of orders could come from the ChatGPT channel by 2030.
Utěšil also noted that the adoption of online grocery shopping has been slow over the long term - it has taken over 15 years and still accounts for only a few percent of the market - and that even people who regularly use AI do not regularly buy groceries through ChatGPT. He expressed concern that widespread shopping through AI agents could deprive online stores of direct customer relationships and turn them into anonymous marketplaces where an agent chooses solely on price and delivery speed, regardless of brand. The company therefore does not yet actively promote agentic shopping, although it is building the necessary infrastructure and distinguishes useful AI agents on its website from the overwhelming traffic generated by junk crawlers. The rest of the interview is not available in the source.
Why it matters
This case shows that agentic shopping through AI assistants remains marginal in e-commerce, but companies such as Košík.cz are already building infrastructure and testing how to handle it. For online stores, this is a strategic decision: participating in agentic channels may bring new orders, but also poses the risk of losing direct customer relationships and becoming a commodity marketplace driven solely by price and delivery speed.
Two audiences, two different impacts
What this means
For individuals
Readers can try shopping from Košík.cz through the ChatGPT plugin themselves and compare it with conventional online shopping - but according to the company, this remains a marginal way to shop.
For a business
For e-commerce companies, this is a concrete example of the trade-off between preparing early for agentic shopping and the risk of losing direct customer relationships and control over price competition.
