According to an article on AWS Machine Learning Blog, Incarna put a payment flow into production in which its AI agents pay for individual model requests through BlockRun. The deployment runs on the Base network. BlockRun provides access through the x402 protocol to more than 90 models from more than 15 providers; each request is priced, paid for, and settled separately.

Amazon Bedrock AgentCore payments connects the customer's wallet, signs transactions, and, according to AWS, enforces spending limits at the infrastructure level. A payment session has a budget cap and a validity period. Neither the agent code nor its instructions can change the budget cap. Incarna configures sessions around a daily budget. The exact scheme is used when the price is known in advance, while upto allows a maximum amount to be approved and actual usage to be settled within that limit.

According to the source, the team at Incarna completed the integration in three days, spending one day on development and two on testing. The team wrote approximately 200 lines of application code, compared with the two to three months of work originally planned. During beta operation, the agents processed over 1 000 payments ranging from 0.001 to 0.05 USD per call, each settled separately on the blockchain. These are the amounts recorded during that operation. BlockRun describes its router as open source.

What changed

Why it matters

When an agent makes hundreds of small purchases during a single session, combining payment for actual usage with a predefined cap is essential. The deployment described shows how to separate the agent's decisions about model calls from control over how much it can spend.

Two audiences, two different impacts

What this means

01

For individuals

A developer integrating payments through x402 can use a managed service to connect a wallet and sign transactions. The implementation described provides a concrete procedure covering credential storage, creation of a Payment Manager, and configuration of a payment tool.

What to do Try the payment flow described on a test network using testnet USDC.

02

For a business

For a company running paid agents, the main impact is control over operating expenses: a daily budget and a payment session validity period limit spending even if the agent logic contains an error, according to the description from AWS.
