Guide connects Claude Desktop product with Web Search and corporate login via Amazon Bedrock AgentCore
AWS has described how to connect the Claude Desktop product with Web Search via MCP and AgentCore Gateway. Corporate login is handled by AWS IAM Identity Center, the Amazon Cognito service issues JWTs, and the gateway verifies them on every request.
AWS has published a guide on how to connect the Web Search service to the Claude Desktop product on the Amazon Bedrock platform via MCP and AgentCore Gateway. The integration allows obtaining current information from the web, such as documentation changes or current pricing. According to AWS, the service uses an index of tens of billions of documents, and all search traffic stays within AWS infrastructure, without the need for external API keys.
The procedure links the AWS IAM Identity Center service with the Amazon Cognito service: the former authenticates users via SAML, the latter issues a JWT after login using OAuth 2.0. AgentCore Gateway verifies the JWT on every request. The guide describes creating a user pool in the Amazon Cognito service, setting up federation, registering an application client, creating a gateway, and adding the connection in the Claude Desktop product.
According to the article, the Web Search service is available in the us-east-1, eu-west-1, and ap-northeast-1 regions; the gateway must be created in one of them. After logging in, the Claude Desktop product discovers the WebSearchTool and, when current information is needed, offers the user approval of the search query. It includes the results in the response after approval. See the source article for details.
Why it matters
After setting up the integration, users can obtain current web-based information directly in the Claude Desktop product and approve individual searches. For companies, the guide provides a concrete procedure for tying search access to their existing corporate login and JWT verification on every request.
Two audiences, two different impacts
What this means
For individuals
After setting up the integration, you can look up current documentation or pricing in the Claude Desktop product and approve the proposed query before it runs.
For a business
Corporate management of web search access can use the existing AWS IAM Identity Center service; the integration requires setting up federation via Amazon Cognito and JWT verification in AgentCore Gateway.
