Google is offering university students in the USA a free year of Google AI Pro (normally 19.99 $/month), students outside the USA a free year of Google AI Plus, and introducing new study tools in Gemini — student hub, study notebooks, interactive visualizations and Deep Research in Gemini…

Google has launched an offer for university students to mark the start of the new academic year. Eligible students in the USA get free access to Google AI Pro for one year, which normally costs 19.99 $ per month. According to the company, the offer unlocks 4× higher usage limits in Gemini, access to Gemini Spark, Gemini integration into Google apps such as Gmail and Google Docs, 5 TB of storage and Google Health Premium. Students outside the USA get Google AI Plus free for a year, with access to Gemini Omni, 2× higher usage limits and 400 GB of storage. Students who also want ad-free streaming can additionally get a Google AI Pro bundle with a YouTube Premium subscription at a discount of up to 70 %, again according to the company.

The offer also includes a new student hub in the Gemini app, available at gemini.google.com/students, which brings study tools together in one place — creating study notebooks, making flashcards or taking practice quizzes. The study notebooks feature, launched back in June, creates a learning plan based on uploaded study materials (lecture notes, etc.), can offer a diagnostic quiz to identify gaps in knowledge, and then generates tailored lessons and quizzes with a progress overview. According to Google, study notebooks will be expanded in the coming weeks to include charts and images in lessons and, with user permission, will be able to automatically add exam dates and assignment deadlines from a syllabus to Google Calendar.

Also new are interactive visualizations, which generate working 3D simulations in response to a study query — examples given by the company include an interactive 3D model of DNA or a simulation of a pendulum exchanging energy. Deep Research is also being integrated into Gemini Live, allowing users to specify a topic to research by voice, let Gemini work in the background and, once the report is complete, discuss the results or ask follow-up questions.

According to Google, student hub, study notebooks, interactive visualizations and Deep Research in Gemini Live are rolling out starting today to all users of the Gemini app.
