GitHub is gradually rolling out Gemini 4 Argon in GitHub Copilot
Gemini 4 Argon is being rolled out gradually in GitHub Copilot for the Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise plans. Usage is billed at the rates listed by the provider. Administrators on business plans can control access.
GitHub announced general availability of Gemini 4 Argon in GitHub Copilot for users on the Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise plans. Access is being rolled out gradually, so the model may not yet be available to all eligible users. Once it appears, it can be selected in the model picker.
The model is designed for complex coding, AI agent tasks and reasoning. According to GitHub, it solved more tasks than previous Gemini models in initial tests across all coding benchmarks used; the company reports the largest improvement in Copilot CLI. The company also says the model thoroughly checks its work and tests edge cases before finishing.
Usage is billed based on consumption at the rates listed by the provider. Administrators of Business and Enterprise plans can control access through model policies in the GitHub Copilot settings. New models are enabled automatically by default unless an administrator turns off this default setting or explicitly disables a particular model.
Why it matters
Developers on supported plans are gaining another option for demanding coding tasks. For businesses, the introduction also has operational implications: automatic enablement of the new model and usage-based billing link its availability to access and cost management.
Two audiences, two different impacts
What this means
For individuals
Users on a supported plan can choose Gemini 4 Argon for their coding task once it becomes available to them. Evidence of better results so far comes from a claim by GitHub about its initial tests.
For a business
On business plans, the new model is enabled automatically by default. Its paid use therefore becomes part of managing developer tools and costs, while administrators can restrict access.
