GitHub gradually rolls out Claude Haiku 5.5 in GitHub Copilot
Claude Haiku 5.5 is coming to GitHub Copilot for the Pro, Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise plans. The rollout is gradual, and usage-based billing follows the provider's price list. Organization administrators can control access in the model settings.
GitHub announced the availability of Claude Haiku 5.5 from Anthropic in GitHub Copilot. Access covers the Pro, Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise plans. The rollout is gradual, so the model may not yet appear in the menu for all eligible users.
According to GitHub, the model is designed for fast, high-volume work, such as AI sub-agents, small code changes and terminal tasks. In early tests, GitHub says it matched Claude Sonnet 5 on a range of coding tasks while using significantly fewer tokens and taking fewer steps.
Usage-based billing follows the provider's price list. Administrators of Business and Enterprise plans can control access through model policies in the GitHub Copilot settings. When models are enabled by default, the new model is enabled automatically unless the administrator has disabled the global default enablement setting or explicitly blocked this model.
Why it matters
Users gain another option for editing code and working in the terminal directly in GitHub Copilot. For organizations, the rollout process also has practical implications: access to the new model may be enabled automatically based on existing administrator settings.
Two audiences, two different impacts
What this means
For individuals
If you use one of the supported plans, you can select Claude Haiku 5.5 for your coding tasks once it becomes available. Availability may vary between users during the rollout.
For a business
Organizations on Business and Enterprise plans may automatically gain access to a model billed based on usage. Model settings therefore affect both which tools are allowed and how their use is controlled.
