GitHub Copilot has added metrics for VS Code Agents to usage reports

clearly official source

GitHub Copilot has added new metrics for the VS Code Agents window to enterprise and organization usage reports — counts of active users, sessions and messages, available for both 1-day and 28-day periods.

GitHub has expanded Copilot usage metrics reports with metrics related to the VS Code Agents window. The new metrics are generally available and are included in both aggregate reports for enterprises and organizations and reports for individual users, covering both 1-day and 28-day periods.

Aggregate reports now include the daily_active_vscode_agent_users metric (the number of unique users active in the VS Code Agents window on a given day) and totals_by_vscode_agent (aggregate session_count and total_user_messages values). User-level reports include used_vscode_agent (an indicator of whether the user used the VS Code Agents window) and totals_by_vscode_agent with session_count and total_user_messages values for that user. According to GitHub, these metrics help explain how many people use the VS Code Agents window and how they interact with it — aggregate reports are used to track adoption trends, while user-level reports are used to analyze usage across teams.

Metrics appear as null if the corresponding data from the VS Code Agents window is unavailable. Access to the data requires the Copilot usage metrics policy to be enabled and is available through the Copilot Metrics API and in the Copilot Metrics dashboard.
