AWS guide explains how to call GPT-6 models through global cross-Region inference in Amazon Bedrock
AWS has published a guide on calling GPT-6 models from source regions in Asia through global cross-Region inference in Amazon Bedrock. The client passes a global profile identifier; the service selects the destination region for processing.
AWS has published a guide on calling GPT-6 models through global cross-Region inference in Amazon Bedrock. Instead of a model identifier, the client passes the profile identifier global.openai.gpt-6-sol, global.openai.gpt-6-luna or global.openai.gpt-6-astra. Amazon Bedrock selects a destination region from the supported commercial regions where the model is deployed. The guide describes access through Converse API, OpenAI Responses API and OpenAI Chat Completions API.
The table lists five source regions for GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna: Singapore (ap-southeast-1), Jakarta (ap-southeast-3), Malaysia (ap-southeast-5), Thailand (ap-southeast-7) and Taipei (ap-east-2). For GPT-6 Astra, it lists only Singapore. The main text of the article, however, mentions all three models in the listed regions, contradicting the table. Singapore is enabled by default; the other four regions must be enabled first. AWS recommends checking the relevant model card for current support before implementation.
Billing, quota tracking and monitoring through AWS CloudTrail and Amazon CloudWatch remain in the source region, even when processing takes place elsewhere. The guide also discusses IAM permissions and organizational SCP policies that govern access to profiles and permitted regions. Details are available in the source article.
Why it matters
For teams whose requests run up against local capacity limits, this approach offers access to capacity in other regions, according to AWS. Application design also needs to distinguish the region where data is processed from the region where costs, quotas and operations are monitored.
Two audiences, two different impacts
What this means
For individuals
A developer modifying the client can use the interfaces described, but must configure a regional endpoint and pass the global profile identifier as the model.
For a business
Corporate policies governing access and data location must account for processing in the destination region selected by the service. Keeping billing and monitoring in the source region does not, by itself, determine where a request is processed.
