AWS described how to automate the transfer of Amazon Quick resources between accounts

only one source so far

The guide from AWS shows how to transfer Amazon Quick resources between accounts using the sample MCP Quick Resource Migrator server. It offers a preview of changes and optional backups; according to the company, the transfer can be repeated and does not delete anything in the target account.

AWS published a guide to automating the transfer of Amazon Quick resources, for example from a development account to a production account. The sample MCP Quick Resource Migrator server runs on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore and transfers agents, connectors, knowledge bases, workspaces and automated workflows. Resources can be selected by type, identifier or name, or all resources can be transferred. The preview_migration tool shows the scope of the transfer in advance without making changes.

The architecture uses three accounts: the central account runs the server, the source account provides a read-only role and the target account provides a role with read and write permissions. The server assumes roles through AWS Security Token Service; according to AWS, this means the solution does not store long-term credentials. When transferring permissions, it maps users to registered users in the target account. The server can be controlled from Amazon Quick or an MCP-compatible client.

According to AWS, the process creates missing resources, updates existing ones, can be safely repeated and does not use delete operations in the target account. Optional storage in Amazon S3 retains versioned backups for review and recovery; backups are disabled unless this storage is configured. Transferring knowledge bases does not include copying objects in Amazon S3. The source code is available in the aws-samples repository. See the source article for details.

What changed

Why it matters

The guide offers a concrete procedure for deploying Amazon Quick resources across separate environments. The preview allows changes to be assessed before they are made, and optional backups support reviewing history and recovery. However, transfer planning must account for the fact that this process does not copy data stored as objects in Amazon S3.

Two audiences, two different impacts

What this means

01

For individuals

An administrator or developer can transfer selected resources with a single tool call. For knowledge bases, they must handle the transfer of data objects in Amazon S3 separately.

What to do Before the transfer, run the preview_migration tool and check the list of selected resources.

02

For a business

The team responsible for deployments can incorporate the migration preview into the approval process for changes between accounts. The traceability of updates and the ability to recover depend on the configuration of the optional backup storage.

What to decide When planning the deployment, decide how to configure the optional backup storage based on your company's requirements for reviewing history and recovery.
