Apple unveils HomeView smart display with Siri AI assistant for 299 dollars
Apple has opened preorders for the HomeView display at 299 dollars. The Siri AI assistant is intended to control the home and use personal context, which requires a compatible iPhone on the same network and facial recognition. Shipping will begin on 13 November; the Czech Republic is not among the initial markets.
Apple has unveiled HomeView, its first smart display for the home, and opened preorders. According to Apple, the built-in Siri AI voice assistant lets users ask questions in natural language, control their smart home and use information from messages, calendars and emails. Access to personal context requires facial recognition and an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence connected to the same network. The author of the article has not yet tried the device.
HomeView has a seven-inch square display, a speaker base and a 12-megapixel camera. It serves as a smart home hub, Matter controller and Thread Border Router for compatible devices. It also offers video calls through FaceTime, recipe viewing and feeds from cameras that support HomeKit Secure Video. The camera has no physical cover; according to Apple, it is used only for video calls and facial recognition.
The price is 299 dollars, the same as for the wall-mounted version without a speaker base. Preorders are open in the USA, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and India. The Czech Republic is not among the initial markets. Shipping is expected to begin on 13 November.
Why it matters
The device combines home control and access to personal information on a shared display. Prospective buyers need to consider the requirements for accessing personal context: buying the display alone is not enough; they also need a compatible iPhone on the same network. For prospective buyers in the Czech Republic, availability in only eight foreign markets currently limits their purchasing options.
