Anthropic has made Claude Cowork available directly in the sidebar of the Claude Chrome extension. Skills, plugins and connectors now work in the browser without additional installation, and the feature is available for all paid plans.

Anthropic has integrated a full Claude Cowork session into its Claude Chrome extension, which now runs directly in the browser sidebar. Previously, the extension could only read the content of a page the user was logged into, click, fill in forms and search for information; it now supports a complete Cowork session.

This means skills, plugins and connectors work in the browser for the first time, without additional installation. According to Anthropic, Claude in Chrome handles searching and gathering information on the page, while Cowork turns it into Excel files, PowerPoint presentations or reports. The company gives examples such as retrieving metrics from analytics tools, organizing Google Drive or logging sales calls in Salesforce.

According to Anthropic, the application asks for user confirmation before completing a purchase, and sessions are tied to an account, rather than a specific device. The company also warns about the risk of hidden instructions on visited websites (prompt injection) and recommends avoiding use of the extension with banking or healthcare information.

The new feature is available immediately for all paid plans through the Chrome Web Store.

What changed

Why it matters

Users can go straight from searching the web to a finished output (spreadsheet, presentation, report) in a single browser without switching between applications or doing additional plugin setup. However, this also creates a more sensitive point in terms of security - because the extension reads the content of visited pages and acts on behalf of the user, the risk of prompt injection attacks increases, which Anthropic itself cites as a reason why it does not recommend use with banking or healthcare data.

Two audiences, two different impacts

What this means

01

For individuals

A user with a paid Claude plan can enter a task directly in the Chrome extension and receive a completed Excel file, PowerPoint file or report without installing additional tools, but when working with sensitive personal information (banking, health), they should be cautious because of the risk of prompt injection, as recommended by Anthropic.

What to do Try Claude Cowork in the Chrome extension for everyday tasks, but avoid entering banking or healthcare information.

02

For a business

Companies can give employees access to automation for routine tasks, such as creating reports from dashboards, working with Google Drive or entering data into Salesforce directly in the browser, but this introduces a new security risk - according to Anthropic, there is a risk of prompt injection attacks from web pages, so use with banking or healthcare data is not recommended.

Productivity
What to decide Consider internal rules for employees using the extension, particularly excluding banking and healthcare data because of the risk of prompt injection.
