Amazon Quick arrives as an extension directly in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Amazon has made extensions for the Amazon Quick assistant available for Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. The assistant draws on data from AWS, QuickSight and connected services and can edit documents directly. No additional licenses are required for customers on the Plus, Professional and Enterprise plans.
Amazon has made extensions for the Amazon Quick AI assistant available for Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, in both the desktop and web versions of Microsoft 365. According to the company, this is an agentic assistant embedded directly in the interface of each application as a sidebar, so users do not have to leave their document or switch between applications.
The assistant has access to data the company already works with in Amazon Quick – Amazon QuickSight dashboards, Spaces, data sources in AWS and connected third-party services such as Salesforce, Jira, Slack and SharePoint. According to the company, the agent can find and replace text, insert sections and change formatting in a Word document, showing the changes in a visual comparison and recording them in an audit trail. In Outlook, the assistant maintains a separate conversation history for each email thread.
The extensions require no installation on the user's computer and run in the cloud; an administrator can deploy them in bulk through Microsoft 365 admin center, or users can add them themselves from the Microsoft add-in store. The exception is Outlook, where administrator approval is often needed due to common Graph API permission restrictions, according to the company. Sign-in uses authentication provided by Amazon Quick without requiring an Entra application to be configured; on the Free and Plus plans, users can use corporate credentials or sign in through Google or Apple. According to the company, customers on the Plus, Professional and Enterprise plans need no additional license, and data access remains within the selected one of seven AWS regions (including the USA, Ireland, London, Frankfurt, Sydney, Tokyo). Use requires an active, existing Amazon Quick environment, whose data sources and integrations the extensions inherit. Details can be found in the source article.
Why it matters
According to the company, employees who prepare proposals, presentations or reply to emails can draw on company data (AWS, QuickSight, Salesforce, Jira and others) directly in the document they are working on, without manually switching between systems and copying source material. For IT departments, the key point is that deployment requires neither a new license for existing Quick customers on higher-tier plans nor installation on devices, but Outlook requires administrator approval due to restrictions on access to Graph API.
Two audiences, two different impacts
What this means
For individuals
Users can edit documents, spreadsheets, presentations and emails directly in Microsoft 365 using an assistant with access to company data, without having to switch between applications and manually copy source material.
For a business
Deployment requires neither client-side installation nor additional licenses for customers on the Plus, Professional and Enterprise plans; an administrator can deploy the extensions in bulk through Microsoft 365 admin center. For Outlook, administrator approval is usually required due to Graph API restrictions.
