Stability AI released three new audio models and software for editing music using AI. The models can generate full instrumental tracks or short musical excerpts from text prompts. The offering targets music professionals.
At the end of August, the company announced funding of 76 million dollars, including from Sony, Warner and Universal. As part of the agreement, those companies provided licenses to their music catalogs for training. According to a statement by Sean Parker, a future update is expected to allow generation to be controlled by humming a melody or beatboxing to specify a rhythm; this is a planned feature.
Why it matters
Musicians can turn text prompts into instrumental tracks or short excerpts. Production teams gain another offering for generating and editing music that they can assess when choosing tools for their workflow.
Two audiences, two different impacts
What this means
For individuals
A musical idea can be entered as text to have a track or excerpt created. Control through humming or beatboxing cannot yet be counted on as a released feature.
For a business
There is an additional offering to consider when choosing a supplier for music production, covering both audio models and editing software. Teams can assess its use in the process of creating and editing music.
